Dr Olivia Swann

Dr. Olivia Swann is a Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Paediatric Infectious Disease at the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine, University of Edinburgh. She was the first doctor in Scotland to specialize in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and has gained international experience in Malawi, Ethiopia, and Nepal; which ignited her passion for reducing health inequalities.

After treating children with cerebral malaria in Malawi, Dr Swann felt compelled to improve the health of as many children as possible.

In addition to her efforts to address health inequalities, Dr. Swann is a passionate advocate for data science, especially for women, actively working to bridge the current gender gap.

Driven by her passion to data and health, Dr. Swann is researching the connection between energy poverty and acute respiratory infections (ARIs) in young children; focusing on the impact of poorly heated, damp, and mouldy housing on ARIs in preschool-age children. Furthermore, Dr. Swann advocates a ‘health in all policies’ approach to promote broader public health improvements.
