Dr Paul Aurora has been consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and Lung Transplantation at Great Ormond Street Hospital since 2002. He is fully accredited in this speciality and able to see patients with all aspects of paediatric respiratory disease.
Specialisms
Particular interests include severe or end-stage lung disease, rare and congenital lung diseases, lung disease in children with multi-system disorders, cystic fibrosis, and asthma/preschool wheeze. He is a leading authority on lung function testing in children of all ages and has co-authored current international standards in this area. He is also a specialist in lung transplantation, and has some additional responsibilities in cardiac transplantation.
Research interests
Dr Aurora is academic lead for respiratory medicine at this hospital, and is very active in research. He has published more than 70 peer reviewed research papers in the last decade, mostly in the fields of cystic fibrosis, preschool wheeze, and lung transplantation.
He runs the main teaching programmes for the speciality for south-east England and frequently teaches at courses and conferences around the UK and elsewhere. He also co-ordinates all departmental training attachments for medical students and visiting consultants/fellows.
In addition, he is currently chair of one of the scientific groups of the European Respiratory Society, and is Assistant Director of the Registry of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
