Dr. Ducharme is Professor in the Departments of Paediatrics and Social and Preventive Medicine, University of Montréal. She is a paediatrician and clinical epidemiologist and responsible of the Asthma Clinic and Asthma Education Centre at the Sainte-Justine University Health Centre. She leads a productive career as physician caring for asthmatic children, as a teacher, as a research mentor, and as a scientist.
Her research program, which has received uninterrupted research funding of over $35,000,000 since 1990, focuses on improving the quality of life of children with asthma by improving their diagnosis, management, and long-term outcomes. She has developed new instruments specific to children, educational and drug interventions, systematic reviews, and has largely contributed to disseminating evidence-based guidelines. She has produced over 240 publications in high-impact journals (NEJM, Lancet, JAMA, BMJ), numerous editorials, and has given more than 240 invited talks as expert in North America, Europe, Middle East, and Australia. She has trained numerous physicians and scientists who now hold university appointments across the word. She has received multiple career awards to underline her exceptional contribution to improving the care of children with asthma. Indeed, her research findings have contributed to modifying guidelines across the world.
After co-authorship on adult and paediatric Canadian Asthma Consensus statements in the past 20 years and several other provincial, national, and international statements, Dre Ducharme is currently member of the Scientific Board of the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA).
