Professor Lakhanpaul graduated 1992, gained her doctorate in in 2003, and proceeded to Senior Lecturer/ Consultant Paediatrician at the University of Leicester.

In 2012 she joined the UCL GOS Institute of Child Heath as Professor of Integrated Community Child Health and in 2016 was appointed Head of Population, Policy and Practice in the Institute of Child Health. She takes a cross sector participatory approach to complex intervention design working particular with marginalized communities and recognizing the important or sociocultural factors that influence health outcomes.
